„Mimo, że jestem chory i jak ocet kwaśny, ale chwytam za pióro” : korespondencja między Józefem Ignacym Kraszewskim a Karolem Estreicherem z lat 1867-1886

The paper is an edited compilation of letters exchanged between Karol Estreicher and Józef Ignacy Kraszewski in the years 1867-1886. While Estreicher’s handwritten letters were relatively clear and explicit, Kraszewski’s autographs caused many problems in their deciphering because of his illegible handwriting. Due to the rich subject matter of the correspondence, it was necessary to prepare a critical apparatus. Bibliographic, factual and dictionary information and explanations were provided in footnotes. The correspondence reveals the daily lives of the authors, their friends and relatives, including family and health issues, as well as recreational travels. The letters also helps discover how Kraszewski and Estreicher obtained and exchanged information, and how they supported each other in conducting research for their literary works. Finally, the correspondence is an excellent point of departure to learn more about the culture and the customs of the 19th century. The autographs come from two sources: the Jagiellonian Library (23 letters from Estreicher to Kraszewski), and the Towarzystwo Przyjaciół Sztuk Pięknych w Krakowie/ the Kraków Society of Friends of Fine Arts (132 letters exchanged between Estreicher and Kraszewski).
