Synopsis

ON SOME “WILD AND UNHEARD-OF WORDS” BY JACEK IDZI PRZYBYLSKI

The aim of the article is to show, basing on selected examples, the activity of Jacek Idzi Przybylski regarding word-formation. The paper shall analyse his work entitled On the Art of Writing of the Ancients, which has been the subject of criticism included in the book written by Franciszek Ksawery Dmochowski et. al., entitled Intentions behind the patches of the Kraków Academy. The article discusses and attempts to explain Przybylski’s intentions and analyses three groups of his neologisms: translation of equivalents of foreign words, supplementation of the Polish lexical system, and words, divided into two subgroups, replacing those already in common use, sometimes with a slight modification of meaning.
