CARL SCHMITT – POSITIONEN AND BEGRIFFE. A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POLITICS AND THE POLITICAL

The article considers the relationship between traditional politics and the political (das Politische): are these phenomena mutually exclusive or coexisting, alternative or complementary? The presented proposition is that under normal circumstances the political is an exceptional phenomenon on the background of current politics. This problem is examined with regard to the state and the situation of liberalism and the Catholic Church in West European countries in the 19th century. The author closes the article with questions about the theoretical stance of Carl Schmitt: is he a theorist of politics or a diagnostician of current historical developments; a national thinker or a member of supranational republic of scientists?
