JEWISH KAZIMIERZ IN THE LIGHT OF THE RECORDS OF BEJT DIN COURT OF THE KRAKÓW JEWISH COMMUNITY FROM THE END OF THE 18TH CENTURY
The image of Kazimierz in the second half of the eighteenth century is presented by both Christian and Jewish sources. Among the latter, particular attention should be paid to the widely unknown court books of the community of Krakow from the resources of the National Archives in Krakow. This source includes the records of a Jewish religious court from the years 1764-1803, regarding the Jewish part of the city. The fragments of this source are quoted in the text. They present both the appearance of Jewish buildings and the principles governing peoples’ lives in this part of the city.
