Streszczenie

The book depicts the history of the Krakow garrison of the Polish Army in a broad context of the military system of the Second Polish Republic in the 1920s and 1930s. It examines the process of formation of the local military authorities (Polish Military Command, the General District Headquarters, and the Town Headquarters) as well as the participation of the Krakow-formed units in the struggle for national independence and state borders in 1918–21. Subsequently the structure of the local military authorities in Krakow in peacetime (Corps V Disctrict Headquarters and garrison command) is presented.
The main part of the text outlines the structure and activities of the formations that constituted the Krakow garrison: the higher command and the command of large units, individual units of the main and auxiliary forces, and finally individual services. It shows the training of soldiers and educational endeavors of the army. It discusses a personal profile of soldiers and their everyday life in the garrison with a particular focus on the level of discipline, health, religious life, regimental holidays and celebrations, sports, and extra-professional activities as well as savings-and-loan funds, self-help funds, and cooperatives.
