In 2017-2020, the Pontifical University of John Paul II undertook the project of the chapter house heritage conservation financed from EU funds: Konserwacja unikatowych w skali światowej zabytków związanych z historią Krakowskiej Kapituły Metropolitalnej oraz udostępnienie ich w przestrzeni wystawienniczej w postaci interaktywnej multimedialnej ekspozycji dostosowanej do potrzeb różnorodnych grup docelowych [Krakow Cathedral Chapter heritage conservation: Conservation of worldwide unique monuments related to the history of the Krakow Metropolitan Chapter and making them available in the exhibition space in the form of an interactive multimedia exposure adapted to the needs of various target groups]. The aim of the project was the conservation of the monuments connected with the history of the Krakow Metropolitan Chapter. Its main task was to conclude the conservation endeavours in the chapter house of the Krakow Metropolitan Chapter with a conservation of the silk upholstery from its interior. The said silk textiles to decorate walls constitute an indispensable component of the chapter house’s decoration, defining its uniqueness. The proposed restoration of these objects and their reinstallation on the walls of the chapter house helped restore the functional qualities of the original arrangement of the space. The unique historic and artistic value of the fabrics, coupled with the urgency of the conservation finalizing the project of conservation and restoration of the chapter house interior, are the best evidence of the importance of the project.
