Streszczenie

The article examines the presence of citizens from the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in the People’s Republic of Poland in the 1950s, focusing on war orphans, their North Korean guardians, and high-school and university students. Political, social, and cultural aspects of this migration are presented through an analysis of archival documents. Apart from humanitarian aid following the Korean War, the stay of Koreans in Poland was also part of the DPRK’s strategy to acquire the technical expertise necessary for rebuilding the country. The article illustrates how the departures were monitored by DPRK authorities, which aimed to maintain the ideological loyalty of their citizens.
