Synopsis

CYRILLIC NON-LITURGICAL MANUSCRIPTS AS A BASIS FOR UNDERSTANDING THE LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL IMAGE OF THE BYZANTINE-SLAVONIC TRADITION IN SLOVAKIA

Old Cyrillic texts, as far as their language and origins are concerned, belong to the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Byzantine rite Slovaks. These texts represent a separate confessional and spiritual area of writing, connected with the Slovak culture. They show everyday life of the Byzantine rite believers in the Slavic tradition and ethno-linguistic diversified environment near the Carpathi-ans. Due to these sources we are acquainted with the supra-regional, intercultural and interethnic extent of the Cyrillic and Church Slavonic writing in the Byzan-tine rite tradition. The Cyrillic texts, along with the Latin and German literary sources belong to the cultural heritage of Slovakia.
