Streszczenie

“CRACOW PUB REALISM” – CRACOW PUBS IN THE LITERATURE AFTER 1989

“Krakow pub realism” is a term constructed by literature critics to describe a trend present in the Polish contemporary literature which concerns novels tak-ing place in Cracow’s cafes. The aim of the article is to characterize this cultural phenomenon, which heretofore was not considered in a scholarly context. The paper is based on an analysis of more than 90 books published after 1989. This criterion allows to focus on those times, when freedom of speech and freedom of economics were not restricted anymore. In the article the most popular book writers of this trend are mentioned, such as: Jerzy Pilch, Sławomir Łuczak, Marcin Świetlicki, Irek Grin, Gaja Grzegorzewska or Robert Ostaszewski, their works and also the most often described pubs (Vis-à-Vis, Piękny Pies, Alchemia).
