ASF jako zagrożenie biologiczne w Polsce i na świecie .......... 239
Streszczenie
African swine fever (ASF) is a severe infectious viral disease endangering pigs and wild boars. Due to the lack of threat to human health, interest in this subject is low, despite visible impact on: i) economy, e.g. high losses in the pork production industry of significant market value (about PLN 20 billion) in Poland, decrease in the number of pigs – in Ukraine almost threefold, global shortages in the supply of pig-derived pharmaceuticals; ii) society, e.g. mass protests in Eastern Europe or iii) culture, e.g. since April 2019 pork is no longer the most consumed meat in the world. Recently ASF virus was already confirmed in a wild boar in the Wschowa poviat on 14.11.2019, less than 50 km from the pig production hub (few million pigs) in Wielkopolska (the so-called ‘swine district’) and the introduction of ASF there may have immense consequences. In this contribution we investigate the risk of probable intentional introduction of ASF on different geographical scales with particular emphasis on Poland.
