А MOMENT AND ETERNITY AS ANTINOMY: P.A. FLORENSKII AND SILVER AGE CULTURE

In the doctrine of Russian Silver age philosopher Pavel Florenskii (1892-1937) the present moment is understood paradoxically as actual infinity antinomically combining the infinity of past and future. Time thus appears as an eternally actualized present which is a meeting of two counter-currents. One is directed from past to the future, the other one from future to the past. Within the Silver Age culture such vision of time finds a match in a number of philosophical and poetical contexts. Nicolai Fedorov’s and Vladimir Solovyov’s doctrines as well as the works of remarkable Silver age poets are among them. Osip Mandelstam’s works are analyzed in this regard. The author also raises the question of significant layers in Russian culture’s memory which could bring to life such a unique time model although it was presented by means of modern language.
